JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Project Co-ordinator – Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
(Fixed term 3 years in first instance)


Responsible to: Head of Business and Commercial Service

Accountable to: Director of Research and Knowledge


Overall Purpose

The function of the post of Project Co-ordinator, KTP is to ensure the successful attainment and maintenance of the university’s KTP portfolio (including “mini KTPs”)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• To act as the primary point of contact for all stake holders, such as KTP Associates, Supervisors and Company Partners in respect of customer service and problem solving

• Co-write compelling KTP proposals, working with the KTP Regional Representative, client companies and nominated academics. Then to submit them to KTP Central Office for approval and development into active schemes

• Ensure that the KTP attainment targets set out in the strategic plan are achieved

• Take responsibility for planning and maintaining the KTP submission cycle in order to meet that departmental and institutional KTP targets are met

• Ensure that all essential paperwork relating to KTP is maintained

• Attend regional and national KTP stake-holder meetings and events

• Establish company-partner satisfaction and quality monitoring methodologies

• Establish and manage the effective maintenance of all administrative systems relating to KTP activity within the University, such as:

- Attendance at LMC meetings
- Minute-taking and agenda setting
- Financial record keeping
- Contractual and IPR agreements
- Recruitment of Associates

• Create support mechanisms for both Academic staff and KTP Associates, including one to one coaching, group meetings and other activities

• Work with School Accountants to ensure that Schools’ external income generation activity complies with institutional financial regulations.

• Liaise with Finance Department to ensure KTP program budgets are monitored and maintained effectively

• Maintain an active record of knowledge transfer activity/income generation using the institution’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.

• Report personal and project success in the context of the agreed targets regularly as requested.

• Actively promote The University of Northampton to the local and regional business communities, public sector, and funding bodies as a source of leading edge technology, knowledge and expertise as directed by the Business Development Manager.

• Meet an agreed level of internal and external business development activity, particularly telephone sales calls, direct mailings, networking, delivering presentations at corporate events and meetings / company visits.

• Set up a local network of ‘introducers’ with key business advisers to ensure a steady stream of referrals.

• Liaise closely with Business Development colleagues to ensure a seamless relationship with lead generation activities

• To act as a conduit between The University of Northampton and its local and regional business community and to represent The Knowledge Exchange and The University of Northampton at external meetings.

• Establish regular activities which promote KTP internally and externally ensuring a wider understanding of its value and work, in order to increase take-up

• Contribute to publications promoting the activities of The Knowledge Exchange - and the commercial output of the Schools - both internally to the University, and externally to the business community.

• Place adverts with suitable publications, keeping costs within the advertising budget and as authorised by the Business Development Manager.

• Organise and co-ordinate events and client visits in order to present both Knowledge Exchange and The University of Northampton for maximum commercial advantage.

• To represent The University of Northampton /Knowledge Exchange at meetings as requested by the Business Development Manager (which may involve ‘breakfast’ and evening meetings).

• To actively seek out opportunities to make presentations at such meetings in order to promote the business services offered by The University of Northampton.


Generic Duties and Responsibilities

• The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably requested by the Head of Business and Commercial Service or Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer.

• The post holder will be responsible and accountable for ensuring all employment legislative requirements are adhered to including equality and diversity and health and safety issues.

• The job description may be altered at any time in the future in line with the level of the post to meet changing institutional requirements, but only in full consultation with the post holder.
